Michael's Photo Challenge

Photo challenges are a great way to get out of a creative rut. Recently I’ve decided that I want to force myself into doing more of them The first one up is the Michael’s Photo Challenge.

For a little bit of backstory, there has been a recent craze of photographers attempting beautiful pictures in “ugly” locations. One of the first photographers to get this fad going was pro Jenna Martin. Her blog post (http://jennamartinphotoblog.com/2017/11/19/lowes-photoshoot-2/) involved taking pictures of a model in a Lowe’s hardware store. It was quickly followed up by a popular photoshoot done in a Hobby Lobby, a major craft store in the US. However, Hobby Lobby banned the act in their stores (even though you can probably still get away with it), so enter in Michael’s, the largest craft store in the US. They openly welcome pro photographers to shoot in their stores, and many have accepted that challenge, including myself.

So here are a few of the images I took while in Michael’s recently. I shot all of them with my Canon 5D Classic, with a Canon 85mm 1.8 lens. Some photos had a little bit of a fill flash from a speedlight, and all had to go through a little bit of Lightroom/Photoshop work, as I didn’t want to use too high of an ISO in the photos.
